Built during the height of the Covid-19 crisis and will consist of a new Molecular research facility, the relocated Cardiology and Epidemiology Unit, as well a Clinical Research facility and research labs.  It is composed of two kidney shaped 4 storey ‘wings’ with a large atrium in-between, giving it its working name. It was completed in mid-2021 and will provide World class facilities to meet the new medical challenges.

ACFS was specifically engaged by Metek because of its ability to pre-fabricate as much of the light steel infill walls and associated steelwork as possible in order to minimise personnel on site and to speed up the construction process.  The double height infill walls between the 1st to 3rd floor were manufactured off-site at ACFS’s Wolverhampton factory and were installed as large panels of 8.2m height and up to 2.4m width.  The panels were pre-boarded to provide a weather-tight envelope to which the cladding rails were later attached. The curved façades at the corners of the building were constructed using facetted narrow infill walls to give the curved appearance.  .
