Westway, Botley

In early 2019, ACFS was appointed to Manufacture the light steel frame and roofs to the 40,000m2 mixed use development called Westway Place, Botley. This is a vibrant local district on the outskirts of Oxford but it was let down by its run down 1960’s shopping area.  Planners MACE joined with the developer to produce a sympathetic regeneration of the centre which included high quality homes, student accommodation, public facilities, a community building and 500m2 of retail and restaurant space as well as attractive outside areas.

It was important to reduce construction time and local disruption to the area during construction, which led to the choice of ACFS’s light steel framing system. ACFS has worked with Metek on other major projects and so was able to maximise the benefits of their strong working relationship on this important project.

This genuine community-led project started on site for the structure in April 2019 and the whole project was completed later in the summer of 2020 to meet the start of the academic year, despite the restrictions of the Covid 19 crisis. The project consists of 140 private 1, 2 and 3-bedroom units, 261 student accommodation units, a 123-bedroom hotel and 40,000m2 of mixed-use facilities. The individual buildings had a construction period of 15 to 19 weeks and all were completed up to 3 weeks ahead of time.
